Calgary to Host 2015 Women's Wheelchair Basketball National Championship

All of the fast-paced, hard-hitting action of the Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League (CWBL) women’s division heads to Calgary this spring when the top women’s club teams in the country takeover Mount Royal University for the National Championship April 17-19, 2015.
Teams will compete for the national title at the tournament that will be co-hosted by local club teams the Calgary Rocky Mountain Rollers and Calgary Grizzlies, along with Wheelchair Basketball Canada.

Fundriasing Drive 2014

WSA will be Fundraising throughout Alberta. Watch for our canvessors coming to your community in the near future. Canvessors will be selling Cookies, Chocolate & Brownie packs in an effort to raise additional funds for the association and it's programs. The Cookies, Chocolate or Brownie packs will cost $20. And you will receive a Tax Receipt for your purchase. Please help support the Wheelchair Community in Alberta by purchasing one of our Cookie, Chocolate or Brownie Packs.
How To Identify Our Sanctioned Canvassers:
Canvassers will all have proper WSA identification. Each one should be wearing a WSA inscribed jacket, have an authentic WSA Name Badge along with licensing and information on our association. Canvassers will always offer the products that we are selling. We accept cash or cheque for the purchase. Canvessers will never asked for a straight cash donation without providing the product that we are selling. Canvassers will also issue an official Tax Receipt for the purchase. Should you encounter a canvasser who does not fit this profile or who is asking for cash donations without providing the product we are selling please contact our Fundraising Hotline listed below.

WSA Mourns the Loss of Hall of Fame Wheelchair Basketball Player Diane Earl

It is with a sad heart that we mourn the passing of Diane Earl. A native of Edmonton, Alta., Earl was a former member of the Canadian women’s national wheelchair basketball team. She represented Canada at the 1988 Paralympic Games in Seoul and was a member of the Canadian team that captured the bronze medal at the inaugural women's world wheelchair basketball championship in 1990.
Earl was also an ambassador for the development of the women's game. She was a key trailblazer in support of the women's wheelchair basketball league in Canada and championed greater opportunity for women and girls to play the sport. She was inducted into the Wheelchair Basketball Canada Hall of Fame as an athlete in 1996
In addition to wheelchair basketball, Earl was also an accomplished swimmer and track athlete. She was inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in 1976 for her successful career in track in field

WSA Seeking New President

WSA is currently seeking a dynamic, experienced individual to fullfill the Board of Director Volunteer Position of President. Duties of the position include:
- Shall be the Chief Executive Officer of the Association and shall call all meetings
- Shall be ex-officio of all committees, and shall, when present, preside at all meetings of the Association and of the Executive
- The President shall sign all instruments which require the signature of the Chief Executive Officer
- Perform all duties incidental to the office
- Be responsible to see that all officers and committee members perform their respective duties
- Be the official Governor at all the national body meetings and will speak on behalf of the provincial association as such
- Other duties as may be assigned
The position requires a committment of 6 General Meetings per year along with 1 WSA AGM and 2 National AGM's. The WSA Board of Directors is a Policy Governance Board relying heavily on the Executive Director for the day-to-day operations. The President along with the Board of Directors acts in an advisory role.
Suitable candidates must have a minimum of 3 years direct Board Experience along with related knowledge of the Alberta Provincial Sport Sector. The President position would commence in May 2015 and be overseen for 1 years time by the past president.
