Alberta Open - Prairies Cup Calgary
|Published Monday, July 28, 2014|
PAT RYAN WINS SECOND EDITION OF PRAIRIES CUP IN CALGARY, AB - The second edition of the Prairies Cup took place at the Oakridge Racquet Club in Calgary last weekend as part of the Alberta Open. 5 players from Manitoba and BC took part in the 3 day event. Pat Ryan (Kelowna, BC), who just came of a win at the Legacy Games in Kamloops earlier this month secured the title by remaining undefeated in the round rob competition. James Bernus and Samuel Unrau from Winnipeg, MB, came in second and third.
“Great to play in another new tourney for wheelchair tennis! “ said Pat Ryan. " I'm always glad to see growth in our sport as it hard work to recruit players for a sport as challenging as tennis. I'm happy and proud for both my wins this season (Kamloops) but the biggest win at both of these events for me was meeting some really awesome people. We had a ton of fun both on and off the court and I look forward to competing against these guys next year! "
“Wheelchair Sports Alberta would like to commend the Wheelchair Tennis athletes who competed at the Alberta Open this past weekend in Calgary, “ said BJ Engerdahl, BTG Program Coordinator for Wheelchair Sports Alberta. “ Congratulations to Pat Ryan, James Bernus, and Sam Unrau who placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively. On behalf of Wheelchair Sports Alberta, I would like to thank Tennis Canada, Tennis Alberta, Tennis Manitoba, Manitoba Wheelchair Sports and all of the athletes for supporting this event."
