Fundraising Drive 2016

WSA will be Fundraising throughout Alberta. Watch for our canvessers coming to your community in the near future. Canvessers will be selling Cookies, Chocolate & Brownie packs in an effort to raise additional funds for the association and it’s programs. The Cookies, Chocolate or Brownie packs will cost $20. Please help support the Wheelchair Sports Community in Alberta by purchasing one of our Cookie, Chocolate or Brownie Packs.

How To Identify Our Sanctioned Canvassers:

Canvassers will all have proper WSA identification. Each one should be wearing a WSA inscribed jacket, have an authentic WSA Name Badge along with licensing and information on our association. Canvassers will always offer the products that we are selling. We accept cash or cheque for the purchase. Canvessers will never ask for a straight cash donation without providing the product that we are selling. Should you encounter a canvasser who does not fit this profile or who is asking for cash donations without providing the product we are selling please contact our Fundraising Hotline number listed below.

2016 Alberta Wheelchair Rugby Team(s) Selection

Wheelchair Sports Alberta would like to congratulate the following athletes who have been selected to the Alberta A & B provincial wheelchair rugby teams. These teams will represent Alberta at the upcoming Canadian Wheelchair Rugby Championships in Montreal, Quebec at the end of May 2016. A sincere thank you to the referees, support staff, volunteers, and all of the athletes who participated and gave it their all at the 2016 selection camp.

Canadian Paralympic Committee – System Development Grants

The System Development Fund targets initiatives connected to the various stages of the Canadian Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) Framework, helping develop athletes from playground to podium. Funding amounts of between $2,500 and $10,000 will be available. Funds may be used towards recruitment initiatives, coach or volunteer training, equipment, and more

BTG Wheelchair Tennis Program – Edmonton

Wheelchair Sports Alberta is pleased to announce that the Alberta – Bridging The Gap Wheelchair Tennis Program will be continuing throughout 2016 at the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton. The registration fee is $80/year which includes court time and equipment if required.

BTG Rehab Sports Night – Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital

Wheelchair Sports Alberta is pleased to announce that our weekly BTG Wheelchair Sports sessions at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital will be starting up again on Thursday, March 3rd (5:00 – 6:30PM).

We will be kicking off the program for 2016 by hosting an interactive sport demonstration in Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Tennis, and Wheelchair Rugby. This is an excellent opportunity for potential new participants to see and/or experience wheelchair sports first hand.

We will have current wheelchair sport athletes and coaches there to share their knowledge and experience as it relates to adapted sport and living an active lifestyle. Absolutely anyone interested in getting involved in wheelchair sport and/or active living is welcome to attend.

Come to check out the sport demonstrations and stay for pizza and refreshments afterward, compliments of Wheelchair Sports Alberta.

BTG Wheelchair Rugby Developmental Program – Calgary & Area

Wheelchair Sports Alberta’s Bridging the Gap Program, in conjunction with the Calgary Wheelchair Rugby Association, would like to invite you to participate in a series of developmental wheelchair rugby sessions that we have scheduled in the Calgary area over the next few months. This developmental program is perfect for beginner and/or intermediate level players. In the sessions we will focus primarily on practicing fundamental skills & basic strategies, as well as teaching you the general knowledge of the sport such as specific player/class roles, and the rules of the game.
